patience is a virtue

what the title says.

listen, i grew up with an impatient mother

if she says she’s gonna be outside in 2 minutes,

you better have those boots strapped, jacket zippered,

hands to the doorknob 5 minutes ago

otherwise, your ass is getting left behind

i want to say this is where my lack of patience began, but i don’t see that quality in my sisters. and they have kids. so what the heck is my excuse?

truly, i don’t have one but i’m looking for external reasons

i think patience is key to lots of things in life – decision-making, self-control, calmness, suffering, etc etc

impatience for me is driving well above the speed limit just to arrive 2 minutes before the ETA. ugh. i’m working on it (my friends can attest to this). it’s interrupting someone’s thought because i couldn’t wait to get my own 2 cents in – i hate this about myself. it’s being unable to hide my displeasure with my facial expression. it’s tapping my feet because i need things to move along faster. do you experience any of those?

well, here are ways in which i am working on improving my patience, maybe they will resonate with you so take what you need:

  1. practicing mindfulness – literally take a deep, deeeeep breath
  2. be realistic – is it really that urgent? can it wait?
  3. focus on the now – be present in the moment
  4. slow tf down – self explanatory
  5. actively listen – don’t wait for your turn to speak
  6. get comfortable waiting
  7. pick up a slow hobby – and don’t give up bc you’re not good at it (yet)
    • me personally, i’m: learning to use this damn web builder, learning to use my camera, learning the piano, crocheting/knitting/sewing, building a big lego set

i think impatience is ugly – that’s why i want to work on that with myself. 2026 is my patience year (maybe, eh, in the works). if you’re impatient and want to change, i challenge you to embark on this very difficult journey with me

it might take a while to get there (ugh), but the result will be worth the effort and you’ll find yourself less annoyed with others and in life

all the best,

yani
